What I Have Noticed Ch. 17

Hey Y’all Jonathan McGary here with Pleasant Hill Baptist

And this is another edition of what I have noticed.

I have recently bought a new bicycle so that I could get some exercise while the gyms were closed and more importantly so that I could ride around the neighborhood with my children.

Yesterday, my youngest asked me to ride with him.

Now, he has just recently learned to ride, and on the hills in our neighborhood, he sometimes  has to get off the bike and walk it up the hill.  When he does this I will usually ride back and forth doing u-turns in the street so I can stay close to him but still keep pedaling and exercising.

Yesterday, while riding with him, I started to make a u-turn in the street, when I heard a car coming and saw a vehicle at the last minute just as I was about to make a u-turn.  I only had one hand on the bike and hit the brakes suddenly, the front brake as it turned out, The bike pitched forward as it came to an abrupt stop and I flipped head over heals over the handle bars, and I hit the ground hard.  I mean I wiped out.

I laid there stunned for a few seconds and then I heard a voice asking if I was ok.

The vehicle was a golf cart with a neighbor and some neighbor kids.

Now, I was okay, because I was turning I wasn’t going that fast, but it did hurt...but the thing that hurt most was my pride.

I mean I crashed in front of this dad, a bunch of kids, and my own son.  I don’t often get embarrassed but it was a ding to my pride.

But as I sat there in the middle of the street with everyone watching, do you Know what I noticed?

I had to get up.  I was in the middle of the street after all.  But I also had to get back on the bike.

What is that old saying if a horse throws you off, get right back on?  Well the same applies to Bicycles...and the same applies to life.

Now just like in life, I didn’t have to do it by myself.  My son was there...the neighbor was there and others were there..all asking if I was ok, and If I needed any help.

But I was still the one that had to shake off of the hurt...of my body, and off my pride and get up.

As a Christian in life we sometimes fall down, or get knocked down, and God is there to strengthen you, encourage you, and help you.  Often times he directs others to you to be a help and resource to help you get back up...

Psalm 145:14 says: The LORD helps those that have fallen, and those bent beneath their heavy load.

but you are still the one that has to get back up.

Proverbs 24:16 says: For a just fallen seven times and riseth up again...

In life all kinds of things can cause us to fall down or knock us down.  Sometime or another we are going to fail, we are going to fall, and despite the hurt, the pain, and the bruised pride..we must get back up.

One fo my favorite lines from a movie is...why do we fall?  So that we can learn to get back up.  And I would add so that we learn that God will enable us to get back up.

It does not matter how many times we fall down, or are knocked down.  God is there to strengthen us, and encourage us, and to send encouragement to us to keep on keeping on.  To persevere, to endure, to press on.
