It's a Relationship, Not a Magic Show

Turning to Jesus does not make all your problems in life disappear or magically go away.
Far to often it seems, the message of the church collectively or Christians individually is that if a person will just turn to Christ, then there life will become one of ease.
The Bible does say “Come to me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest”, but we must always remember and share the entire truth and rest of those verses in context. Immediately following that quote comes these words, “Take My yoke upon you and learn from me…for My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
There is still a yoke, and although lightened by the strength of loving God, the Christian life is still work and there is still a weight to be carried.
There is work, troubles, trials and heartache in the Christian life. With Christ these things do not go away, rather they are simply made possible to endure because of His love, mercy, compassion and Grace.
We must remember these truths and share them openly else we and others are in danger of being like the seed that falls on rocky soil. The sprout comes up quickly but is soon withered because of the heat of the sun and there is no root.
We must take root in the reality of Christ and His promises alone. Trust in Him and change your point of view.

Being saved and forever changed by Christ is about a relationship it is not about a magic show.

God will be all that you need today...He will also be there for all that you need tomorrow.

The Testimony of Faith Living

Faith is the carriage on which one receives the grace of God (His gift of eternal life) which is pulled by the saving work of Jesus Christ death on the cross and resurrection from the grave.

As Christians and Bible believing followers of God live by faith not sight.

“For we walk by faith, not sight” II Corinthians 5:7

But living by faith is never easy especially in the light of all that we see going on in the world today.  It seems there is so much pain, suffering and anguish.  Turn on your news and you hear of very little other than hate, as seen in crime, murder, wars, and all kinds of evil.  Racism, bigotry,

Being a Christian certainly does not recuse you from facing hardships such as these.  The Bible even promises that His people will face all kinds of trouble.

Living by faith in the face of trials, tribulations and suffering is never easy.  But if we are to leave a testimony of faith so that others may be able to see the light of God in our lives, our living by faith will be three fold:

1.  A person with a testimony of faith will follow Jesus despite knowing that trials, suffering, and pain may be right around the corner.

Be aware troubles are coming.  Be aware and walk close to Jesus for He is our safety and refugee.

2.  A person with a testimony of faith will follow Jesus even in the middle of their trial, suffering, and pain.

In the middle of your trouble call on Jesus He is  your only hope and He will deliver you.  Stick close to Jesus and allow Him to carry you and your heavy load.

3.  A person with a testimony of faith will keep on following Jesus even when God has brought them out of the trial, suffering and pain that they had faced.

After a period of trouble is over, it is easy to become relaxed and complacent and trust in ourselves.  But by faith we will keep on walking with God even when life does not seem to be dire.  Most will call out to Jesus in a storm, but those that walk by faith will call out to Him and walk with Him in the calm.

Keep on for and with Jesus!  Leave a Godly testimony for others of Godly Faith!

Not One Promise Ever Broken!

Has anyone ever broken a  promise that they had made to you?

Have you ever broken a promise to someone that you made to them?

Promises are often broken.  Even when people mean well, are good hearted, and honest.  Life happens, circumstances changes, and people are imperfect.

Yet no matter how a broken promise happens, the one to whom the broken promise was made can be left disappointed, disillusioned, or even shattered.

But there is one who has never broken their promise, ever.

“And now I am about to go the way of all the earth, and you know in your hearts and souls, all of you, that not one word has failed of all the good things that the LORD your God promised concerning you. All have come to pass for you; not one of them has failed.”  Joshua 23:14

Near the end of his life, Joshua took time with the children of Israel to review all that God had done for them since they had first began following Him.  God had given them an impossible task.  They had faced many difficult circumstances.  They had come along way over many miles and years.  But not one Word of God had failed.  Not one promise that had been given had fallen short of fulfillment.

Joshua told them, and reminded them that God is faithful, had been faithful, and would continue to be faithful.  Not one promise of God would ever fail.

The God of Joshua and Israel is the same living God of the Bible today.  The character of God in those days is the same character of God today.  The power of God then is the same power He has now.  The Word of God now is as true as it ever was then.

As you live this life and walk your own personal journey find and claim the promises of God for your life.  They are found in His Word.

Promises that He would save you and give you eternal life if you would repent and turn to Him by faith are true.

Promises that He will never leave you nor forsake you are true, when you belong to Him and are a child of His.

Promises that all things will work together for good, whether we can see how immediately or not, when we love God and are called according to His purposes and plans, are true.

Promises to carry you, go with you, carry your burdens and give light and joy and peace are true when you call on Him and turn to Him.

Promises that He will love you forever and that His love for you will never change are true.

So many other promises that are made that will give you hope and strength are in His Word to be found.  They are all true.

He is worthy of our trust.  He is worthy of our love.  He is worthy to be believed and followed.  Because His Word never fails.  He has never broken one promise.

Won’t you turn to Him today?

When Life Hurts

I lost a dear friend this week.  Even typing that sentence brings heartache.  She was more than just a friend, she was like family.

In life we are sometimes blessed to know someone who, know matter how long a period of time, or in this case how short a period of time you know them, they find  a special place in your heart.  A person who refuses to wear a frown no matter what troubles or difficulties they are dealing with.  A person who is so pleasant and positive no matter how much they may hurt or suffer.  A person that no matter how hard you try to be a blessing to them, you always find yourself the one who is blessed to know them.

As a pastor, I am not supposed to have favorite church members, but I admit that this friend was one of my favorites.  When she left it was not for forever.  I had to say goodbye for now, but because Her life and testimony showed her hope was in Jesus, I know that I will see her again.

Even with the hope of truth that I have because of her testimony, it still hurts.  Life does that sometimes…it hurts.  So when it hurts I suggest you do the following and I will try to do the same.

1.  Cry.  Cry because of the hurt but also cry because of love.  Cry because although it does not have to be forever, its never easy to be away from someone who is so dear to your heart for any period of time.  Cry because of loss, or pain, or hardship.  Cry because it will do you good to cry.  Cry because it will not do you good to not cry.

2.  Cry with others.  Cry with others that are hurting.  Mourning is an important process and crying is part of the healing that needs to take place.  Cry with others to show your compassion an support of them as well.  Crying for too long on your own can lead to depression but crying with others allows you to share the burden and help others in their healing as well.  God will both send others to cry with you in your time of need as well as send you to others to cry with and offer comfort in their time of need.

3.  Cry out to God.  Ultimately God is the one we must turn to. While He often uses others to offer care, comfort, and support, but God is the only one that can truly mend broken hearts and bring real healing when life hurts.  If we know Jesus as our Savior and Lord then he will walk with us each step of the way and gladly shoulder our burden as well as wrap His arms of love around us for comfort and carry us when we no longer have the strength to take another step.  If you don’t know Jesus as your Savior and Lord you can can by turning to Him in Faith and He can touch your heart and life.  He may not always take away the pain but He will provide comfort and peace if we turn to Him and trust in Him.  Cry out to God today for comfort, healing and peace.

My friend may be gone from this earth but She is still my friend.  She is gone but not forgotten.  She is gone but not gone forever.  She is no longer hurting, suffering, or in pain because She is with Him in Heaven.  Because of this hope that I have for her, and can have for myself through Jesus Christ work on the Cross, the pain is not quite as bad and life does not hurt quite so much.  Because I have a hope in a God that I can cry out to.

Psalm 18:6

"In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears."

Live life Abundantly!

If I asked you what it means to live an abundant life, I probably would get many different answers. But no matter how you would define it, (Exciting, successful, adventurous, fulfilling etc) there can be very little that matters in life without having peace, joy and love.
It seems life itself can drain us of these 3 and so much more.

John 10:10 says:

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

Jesus warns us to be on guard for thieves of who want to rob us of what God has for us. Since the time of Adam and Eve God has been wanting us to enjoy abundant life. A life of peace, joy and love. However, since Adam and Eve, Satan began trying to convince people that God/religion would be holding them back from a full life. Since that time people have had to make a choice who to believe. God or Satan.

When we chose not to believe God, we are in essence believing the lies of the devil and we are forfeiting the abundant life God wants for us. Adam and Eve’s disobedience of God robbed them of all that they had and could have had. They lived with a fraction of what they were intended. Ever since that first decision man has been trying to “win back” the abundant life that he was intended to have. The world seeks to convince you can find fulfillment through your own efforts. The world will tell you that you can find abundant life if you adopt its standard of morality for your marriage, raising your children, advancing your career, and/or pursuing pleasure.
Instead all that you gain is a life that is broken and transitory and empty. It is tragic to listen to voices of the world instead of the one who created life and wants you to experience life to the fullest.

Jesus wants you to live life to with the security and fullness that come by walking with Him. Giving your life to Jesus and choosing Him will allow you to receive all that He has for you. Peace, Love, and joy! If you are living life without these things you are settling for less than what God has promised to give if you will turn to Him and walk with Him. If you are making excuses of why you are not experiencing abundant and joyful life, determine today to settle for nothing less than God’s best for your life. Stop following the way of the World and Walk with the Maker, giver and restorer of Life; both abundant life in this world and in the next.

His name is Jesus Christ
