Off the Page: Genesis Ch. 1

January 22, 2021, 9:06 AM

“Off the Page” is a new devotional series that involves reading 1 chapter of the Bible (I recommend reading it at least 3 times) and discovering what (at least 1 thing)  God causes to stand out to you in that passage.

I encourage you to read the chapter for yourself and see what God shows you before you watch the video and discover what God showed me.

Today: Genesis chapter 1

There are 3 things that God caused to jump “Off the Page” to me today as I read this chapter several times:

  1. Notice how many times we read the phrase, “and God said.”  The answer is 9 if I have counted correctly.

The Creation account in Genesis is one of the most discussed, debated and denied accounts in all the Bible.  The reason for this is that if Satan can cause doubt in the beginning chapter of the Bible, and the account of the beginning of time, then He can destroy all credibility of everything that comes afterwards.

There are several different views of this creation account, whether it be literal, or whether God may have used evolution to create the universe.  While I certainly am convinced of a literal 6 day creation, the point of this video is not to argue that point, but to demonstrate that no matter what view you hold, one fact is beyond debate.  God directly created the universe.  He did so by speaking it into existence.

If God can speak the complexities of the universe into existence, is there anything God cannot do?

2.  Notice How many times we read the phrase, “and God saw that it was good.”  Some form of that concept is written 7 times in this chapter.

The seventh time sums up the familiar thought by expressing “it was very good.”  Everything that God makes is good, there is nothing that He has made or ever will make that is not good. That includes mankind.  You were made good!  God does not make mistakes!

3.  In verse 14 -18 describes God making the Sun moon, stars and other celestial bodies.  In verse 15 and17 it says that God made them and placed them in the sky “to give light upon the earth.”

I find it fascinating that God made in creation, was made for His glory; but also was made for the benefit of man.  The Sun moon and stars were not made to benefit any other planet or people, but were made to shine upon us.  It speaks to the love God has for us, He gave us everything we need to know Him and Thrive in a life that he created for us.

So what about you?  Do you see what I see? Did God show you something else?

Seek Him in His Word, He will be found; and that is the whole point of us reading His love letter to seekHim, know Him, and have a relationship with Him.

Let God speak to you today!
