What I Have Noticed ch. 6: Balance, Foundations, and Garden Planters

April 23, 2020, 10:10 AM

Hey Y’all.  Jonathan McGary here with Pleasant Hill Baptist.

And this is another edition of:  What I have Noticed.

It is spring time, and my wife recently ventured out to buy some plants and planters to plant and place around our house.

The one she placed at the corner of the garage kept falling over.  So she asked me to investigate,

And you do you know what I noticed:  The stone slab that the planter was sitting on was slightly uneven.  Just barely so, almost imperceptible to even the most discerning eye.

But, when any amount of wind would blow, the planter would fall over.

So I have been out here working to firm up the foundation and balance it properly so that the planter can stand, even when the winds blow and the storms come.

What I have noticed is that our every day life is just like this planter.  They both need a proper balance and a firm foundation, or eventually they will come crashing down.

Jesus Christ taught and exemplified this very fact in the Bible.  He taught and discipled his followers to give, and serve, and work in the field for the fields are ready for harvest and that night is coming when no man can work.  We have a limited amount of time to live and serve the cause of Christ.

But He also taught His disciples to take time away from the work, so that they could rest, refresh, and recharge their physical and spiritual batteries.

But even if we have life in proper balance, there still is the danger of collapsing if we do not have a firm foundation.

Jesus taught about 2 people who built houses in Matthew 7:24-27

“Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:

And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.”

The firm foundation we must have, in fact the only foundation that we can trust is Jesus Christ.  The Word of God, the Work of God, and the Word of God.

We must allow God to balance our life and build our life upon the Rock that is Jesus Christ.

And when we do, we will find that no matter what may come in this life.  Trouble, or peril, heartache or storm.

We will be able to stand firm, and stand the test of time.

I pray that you will allow God to balance your life on His foundation.

I pray that God will bless you

I pray that you will notice what I have noticed.

Until next time I want to remind you that I love you.  More importantly God loves you.

Keep your eyes on Him!
